Interference from Flash Programs During Firmware Update

Summary:

  • When updating the firmware on a ZEN Micro, or other MP3 players, the firmware update may report that there is an interference from other applications, for example, Windows Media Player. Learn how to resolve the issue below.

To resolve this warning, you can disable the "Detector" option in MediaSource.

  1. Start MediaSource
  2. Go to Tools > Options > Detector
  3. Uncheck the option for Enable Detector
  4. Close MediaSource.

If the firmware update continues to indicate that there is interference, you can use Windows Task Manager to selectively end application and services that may be causing the interference:

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager, or right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
  2. To quit a program, click on the Applications tab, select the program that you want to quit, and then click End Task.
  3. To end a process, click the Processes tab.
  4. Locate and click on the processes that start "CT", for example, CTFMON.EXE or CTDETECT.EXE, and then click on End Process.
  5. Close the Task Manager.

You may also need to disable or stop background applications that are loaded at the startup: To disable the background applications:

  1. Go to START, click on RUN, and type MSCONFIG and click OK on it.
  2. Under the General tab select Selective Startup, and uncheck Load Start Up Items only.
  3. Click on APPLY and OK
  4. Restart your PC.
  5. After restart check the box on " Don't show this message or Launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows start" message.

After restart, check the box on " Don't show this message or Launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows start" message.
